Orkney Islands discover
Neolithic monuments, island coastlines, and Norse-influenced history in northern Scotland.
Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar, the Standing Stones of Stenness, and Maeshowe make up the UNESCO World Heritage site Heart of Neolithic Orkney. Designated in 1999, the sites are all located on Mainland.
Kirkwall, with St Magnus Cathedral, and other islands offer further highlights. Travel to the islands, exploring Mainland, and island hopping require separate planning. Orkney is not a spontaneous day trip from Edinburgh.
